Limitations of Computer

Limitations of Computer

Computers can outperform humans in speed, memory, and accuracy, but computers have limitations. The limitations of the system are as follows.

Limitations of Computer

1). Programmed and Supervised by Human :  Although the computer is programmed to work efficiently, fast and accurately, it is programmed by humans to do so. A computer is nothing without programs. The system simply follows these instructions. If the instructions are not correct then the operation of the computer will not be accurate. Without supervision, computers may perform poorly when dealing with unexpected situations such as incorrect or incomplete information or instructions.

2). lack of decision making skills: Computers cannot make decisions on their own. For every operation performed by the computer, an algorithm is provided to perform different procedures for each situation. However, if you encounter a problem that is not available in the system, the system is not prepared for it. It will either get corrupted or not respond.

Man has knowledge, intelligence, wisdom, decision making power etc. to take decisions. There is none of this in the computer. They are programmed to work with logic and algorithms, not decisions.

3). lack of common sense : A computer may be an automatic machine, but it requires human assistance. It only works when certain inputs are provided. For example, you need to perform calculations for your math homework. You have to feed each amount to get the output. The computer cannot read the entire homework or provide results.

Another example is a typo in MS Word. The system underlines spelling and grammar errors in red ink. But he can't fix it himself. It also shows errors in proper nouns like nouns. This is because the computer can only recognize words from a standard dictionary.

4). Emotionless : They have no feelings and emotions. A computer cannot see anything like a human being. A computer cannot compete relationally with a human being. Computers are simply machines that function according to instructions given to them.

5). Retrieval of Memory :  Computer can retrieve data very fast but this technique is linear. The human brain does not follow this rule. The human brain can think randomly in a way that no computing machine can.

6). No Intelligence :  Although computers are faster, more hard-working, accurate and versatile than humans, they cannot be replaced. Computers are not as intelligent as humans. Its effectiveness depends on the instructions given to it. It cannot do any work on its own nor can it take any decision on its own.

7). Self Care : A computer cannot take care of itself like a human being. A computer is still dependent on humans for this purpose.

8). Thinking :  Computers cannot think on their own. The concept of artificial intelligence states that a computer can think. But still this concept depends on the instructions given by man.
